According to a recent survey by British Airways, the perfect road trip involves three people, covers 190 miles and involves travelling in a VW Campervan accompanied by rock music.
The study of 2,000 adults found the ideal drive should take place in a Volkswagen camper van, Range Rover or Ford Mustang. There needs to be at least one toilet stop every 100 miles, good weather and reliable satellite navigation. Although one in three of the people asked also said getting lost was part of the fun.

The study also named TV presenter James Corden as the celebrity Britons would most like to have in the passenger seat followed by Tom Hanks and Stephen Fry.
Researchers, from OnePoll, also found 57 per cent of Britons liked the idea of a “fly drive” holiday and 35 per cent would happily drive in a foreign country, even if they had not so previously. However, of those who did not want to drive abroad, 48 per cent worried they would not be able to get used to driving on the other side of the road and 39 per cent feared they would not be able to read or understand road signs.

1. Plan your journey
While part of the excitement involves getting lost and going off the beaten track, it is still a good idea to find out about local campsites, camping by laws and roughly where you want to go.
2. Batteries, a tin opener and clean socks
It’s amazing how many of us can head out into the wilds and forgetting to pack some everyday essentials that we often take for granted. Toilet paper, spare torch batteries, dry socks.
3. Remember the map
With the modern technology at our fingertips it’s easy to become reliant on things like smart phones and Sat Nav — but we still advise you to take a map. Technology fails, the signal isn’t always reliable and in the event of a battery failure you could find yourself stuck on a desolate road without a clue where to go.
4. Take someone you like
OK, we are clearly not going to advise you take someone you don’t get on with, but you have to consider that you will be in a very tight space with someone for an extended period of time.
5. Do not over pack
It is entirely possible to camp for extended periods with very little in the way of personal convenience — do you really need those fancy brogues if you’re trekking up a mountain?
